Welcome to Habit-Land!

With the New Year now in full swing, it’s time to buckle down to our resolutions! But as almost anyone can attest, it’s hard. Most people abandon their lofty goals by February. So how can you make it easier?

With Habitica, a tool created by HabitRPG, Inc, you can make completing your goals FUN! I know, right? It’s true. Instead of just being a checklist, Habitica takes the form of a roleplaying game. Check off tasks, and gain XP that’s used to level you up and get nifty skills. Complete enough tasks? Get some pet eggs, potions, or pet food to raise a stable of cute critters and impressive mounts. There’s cool armor, swords, shields, wacky seasonal items that allow you to turn your friends into ghosts or snowballs, and more.

Some ways to increase accountability are through Parties. You can make one with your friends or go to one of Habitica’s social spaces, the Party Wanted Guild, and join up with other Habiticans (Always, always, ALWAYS be wary of online strangers. Follow the rules of online safety to keep away from the virtual orcs out there). Guilds are groups dedicated to one topic, such as reading, exercising, roleplaying, and lots more!

Challenges are community-run challenges that help you achieve your goals. The Habitica staff create official challenges, but others across Habitica can make them as well. You can achieve your goals and win hard-to-get gems at the same time.

Habitica is the best habit tool I’ve ever used. It’s worth trying out. Thanks to Inky Ramblebeast for introducing me to this wonderful program!

Some New Year’s Resolution Tips:

  • Plan out how to achieve your goal. Instead of just saying, ‘I’m going to publish a best-selling novel,’ try to create a way to get there. For example, ‘I’m going to take some classes to learn how to write better so I can actually write my best-selling novel.’
  •  Write down your goal. Whether in your diary, a planner, or a sticky note you’ll put on your fridge, scientists have found that writing something down propels you towards actually doing it.
  •  Be realistic! You can’t set a goal to write a best-selling novel if you don’t even know how to spell your name. Some things cannot be done in one year, and take years and years and YEARS of practice.

I hope to get at least some ink drawings of my on-site fanfiction posted next week, so stay tuned! Thanks for reading! God bless you! Go forth and be productive!

New Year’s Resolution Update: Missed 3 out of 7 days of devotions, mainly because I don’t like doing it when other people are around, and Sister and I share a room. Finished a Bible plan about modesty, which was pretty enlightening.

Disclaimer: Nobody’s paying me to write this. I may sound like an ad, but I’m not, I promise!
