Mulan Final Trailer Review

Hey guys! Sorry I’m so late! I do actually have an excuse explanation, though. I got sick and couldn’t even get out of bed, so there you go. But, late as I am, here’s the new blog post!

If any of you LOVE Mulan like I do, then you should know they are making a live-action movie of it!! I am so excited to see it when it comes out in March. When I saw the final trailer came out, I watched it, and I thought I’d share my opinions with you guys. Here’s the link if you want to watch it and follow along.

(There is nothing too gory/inappropriate in here, although there are a few war scenes without blood. The witch slams a man onto the ground, kills two men by throwing knives at them, but I reiterate, NO BLOOD.)

0:07: We see the villians make an appearance! They look pretty awesome!

0:11: A good sighting of the bad guy. In the original movie, Shan Yu is a nightmare villian, and this man (who’s named Bori Khan) looks like he might fill the shoes pretty well!

0:13: “Their leader fights alongside a witch.” I was not overly joyful when they announced there would be a witch in this, and yet there’s no Mushu or Cri-kee, but this actually looks like a pretty interesting character! In another trailer I saw, she can shape-shift into a falcon, perhaps taking the role of Hayabusa, Shan Yu’s mascot?

0:33: Our first look at Mulan! She is absolutely beautiful, in my opinion. I’m hoping that she’ll be as brave and strong as Mulan from the first movie!

0:37-0:42: Here, Mulan transitions from graceful Chinese daughter to valiant soldier.

0:44: Yet another look at the awesome running-up-and-down-walls that our bad guys have. I’m not sure what nationality they are. In this scene, they look a lot like ninjas, but in the original movie, I believe Shan Yu and his troops were Mongolian. If you look at a map, you see that north of China is Mongolia, Russia, and Kazakhstan, so they are definitely from Eurasia.

0:49-0:56: “When we take the Imperial City, I will take revenge…for my father!” We see here thay Bori Khan has a history! What happened to his father? Was he killed by the Chinese soldiers? Refused entry to China (Probably not, but it’s the backstory of a villian in an audio adventure series I listen to)? Or something else? And who is he making an agreement with?

0:57-1:00: “What is your name, solider?” “Hua Jun, Commander. Son of Hua Jo.” So, no more Ping, no more Fa Zhu, I mean, no more Fa family! Although Disney is deciding to stick a little closer to the orignial Ballad of Hua Mulan (adding a witch? That’s so in the ballad, right?) and actually make the Fa family the Hua family. And this Commander fellow. Is he designed to take over the role of Li Shang? I love Shang! He was my favorite! But I did hear they were taking him out, and this Commander must be filling his role as the leader of the army. So does Mulan get another love interest? If y’all know the answers to these questions, please don’t hesitate to leave a comment letting me know.

1:01-1:13: OK, yes I know it’s a live-action remake, BUT I MISS MY SONGS! “I’ll Make a Man Out of You” is one of my favorite Disney songs (other than Reflection), so I’m a little sad they’re taking it out. The Oath of the Warrior is loyal, brave, and true, all of which Mulan is in the original movie, and I hope New Mulan can live up to that reputation as well.

1:25: The avalanche! They kept the avalanche in here!

1:26: Here, it looks like Disney opted to swap the cutting-her-hair-with-the-sword-scene for a shaking-her-hair-out-of-a-man-bun-scene. We’ll see which one is better. Narrows eyes at the man-bun scene

1:31-1:34: “You will die pretending to be something you’re not.” Like I said, this witch seems cracked up to be a pretty cool character. It looks like her and Mulan get a little one-on-one time, be it a fight or just a chance meeting.

1:36-1:42: This looks pretty cool! I’m curious, though, as to what Mulan means by “people like us.” Does the witch have a backstory similar to Mulan’s?

1:42-1:46: “A girl threatens our plans?” “A warrior.” YEAH, MAN, A WARRIOR! Seriously, though, this trailer is gettting more and more intense.

1:47-1:52: Mulan has some acrobatic skills! And I’m really intrigued to see where she learns to run on walls.

1:54: Look at that swordplay!

Judging from the trailer, this is going to be a great remake! What do you think? Please leave me a comment telling me! Thank you! God bless!

Updates:

February Sewing Challenge: After accidentally taking out something I didn’t need to, I finished word 3 out of 5 on my sampler…and then Sister walks by and says, ‘that’s crooked.’ So after throwing a teeny-tiny fit (it really was teeny, mostly me throwing down my project and angrily storming out of the room), I picked it up the next day, and now I’ve re-finished the first letter of the word…

Minimalist Tidy: I’m not even going to pretend that’s going well.

Reading Bingo/February TBR:

  1.  Completed The Silmarillion for the book with a cover I love bingo square.
  2.  Completed The Long Patrol by Brian Jacques, as a book recommended by a family member or friend. (Sister recommended it, FYI)
  3.  Completed ‘The Religious Life of the Negro’ by Booker T. Washington and got an A on my precis!
  4.  Completed Faith is Not a Feeling by Ney Bailey for the book about religion or social science, and also because I just need to bolster my spiritual life.
  5.  False Awakening by Arianna Fox
  6. Climbing the Stairs by Padma Venkatraman
  7.  Finished Eventown by Corey Ann Haydu for a book in a genre which you usually avoid.
  8.  Finished Power Psycho-Cybernetics for Youth by Maxwell Maltz, M.D., as a book about self-improvement. I DO NOT agree with his beliefs at all, so I don’t think I’ll ever read any of his books.
  9.  For fun this week, I borrowed an audiobook of Palace of Stone by Shannon Hale, Diary of an 8-Bit Villager Warrior by Cube Kid, and The Complete Stories and Poems of Edgar Allan Poe by Edgar Allan Poe.

God bless y’all! Enjoy!
