Storytime: Midpoint
Hey everyone! I skipped last week, so sorry…
But today is the last post in the Storytime series! I’ll be talking about my fantasy academy story (also partially reorganizing the story’s Pinterest board, because it’s a hot mess)!
In other (quick) writing news, tomorrow is the day I start editing DAR, and I’ve also come up with one-and-a-half story ideas (Half because I totally reimagined my fairy tale story but kept Jasmine in). The 1/2 will be my July NaNo Camp project, and the secret one is for NaNoWriMo in November! Lastly, I wrote an essay that I will be posting shortly and submitted my flash fiction to the NaNoWriMo Flash Fiction contest.
Anyways, onto the story!
The story follows Sierra Chloros, a girl fresh out of junior high, who is mysteriously invited to a private academy. She’s initially skeptical, but her parents accept the invitation and drop her off at the boarding school. She grows to love the school, the beautiful land around it, and her friends, even though there’s nothing unnatural about the school.
At least, not yet. After discovering a door hidden in the wall, she and a couple friends accidentally unleash magic that reveals the school’s secret; the teacher comes from a long line of elves guarding the midpoint between this world and a fantastic one. All the students invited to the school have blood from fantasy creatures, into which they are transformed when the magic is set free. They now have to learn to master their new powers, survive in a fantasy world, and see if their families and all remnants of their old life were ruined when the worlds re-joined.
Sierra Chloros is the main protagonist. She is logical, kind, and smart. After discovering the secret door, her curiosity takes over and she and a few friends venture inside. After unleashing the magic, she discovers she is a dryad, with the powers to make things grow and control plants.
Heaven and Nevaeh are twin sisters. Heaven is more sweet and energetic, although she has a good dose of common sense. Nevaeh is spunky and adventurous. The two love each other dearly, but also love to squabble. After the unleashing of the magic, they turn into mermaids who have scales and water-bending abilities out of water, but in water grow tails.
Beck Palmer is one of my favorites. He’s a quirky boy who becomes fast friends with Heaven, Nevaeh, and Sierra. He initially discovers the secret door and is one of the main contributors to unleashing the magic. He has elf blood in him and transforms into it when the worlds meet (Also, ignore the leaf-things coming out of his hair. That’s more up Sierra’s alley).
I hope you guys enjoyed this! Next week I will have my next chapter of my fanfiction out, and it will be better than the last one *grimaces*. I absolutely cannot get Photoshop to work the way I want it to, so there will be no cover, which is a bummer because I think the art for it was pretty cool if I could just get off the Sharpie smudges. Maybe I’ll post it anyway. But check back next Monday for that!
Keep safe, and God bless.
