A Writerly Chat: Introduction

*turns on How to Train Your Dragon music*

*sits in comfy chair*

*sips hot chocolate*

What’s up everyone? Today we have the beginning of a really fun series. As you all know, I’m an avid writer and reader. So today, we’re going to talk reading and writing and WIPs! But not with me. Oh, no. We’ve had too many blog posts detailing my many WIPs. For this blog series, we’ll be interviewing a special guest! *Throws open red curtain* Come out, Sister!

Yes, Sister is also a writer and reader! She’s currently working on a really good fantasy novel, and we’ll be focusing more on her novel in this series than mine, although my characters will definitely make appearances. Sister’s replies will be in bold. All replies will be typed as close to reality as possible.

Hey Sister!

Hellooo!

So, tell us a little bit about yourself.

Um…ok. Uh…well, I like…reading and writing *laughs*. I’m currently working on *grabs fingers* four books–novels?

Tell us about yourself!

Ok, um, I *grabs throat* love *laughs*, I love, um, *wheels hands around* I like–I love, I love–Lord of the Rings, and The Hobbit, and Star Wars, the prequels especially. My favorite book is *claps* Wolf Hollow by Lauren Wolk, my favorite movie is Lord of the Rings: Return of the King, and The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies. My favorite book series is Redwall by Brian Jacques…um…I love my sense of humor *laughs*. That’s it. Oh! I’m an introvert, I don’t like socializing.

Alrighty! How did you learn to love reading? Do you remember when you used to hate it?

Yes, and that was your fault.

How?

I used to hated reading because you would be reading *stares at me like a creep* and not paying attention to me. Um, and I thought books weren’t worth it like, boring, bleh, so then I discovered…yes, OK, I was a little kid! I discovered a series called *hides face* Arthur and *laughs* Horrible Harry–

I LOVE HORRIBLE HARRY!

Yeah, it was…it was good. But those were like *taps fingers like a bird beak* little baby books, maybe fifty pages. So, for the longest time *breaks into song* I believed a lie. No, sorry. Ok, um…oh yeah! So, those were baby books and for the longest time, those were the only books I would read. So Mom kept trying to get me to read *claws the air and laughs* big books, like grown-up books, because I’m at that level, because I’m a genius.

I’m sure anyone reading this won’t think you are.

Don’t hate my sense of humor, people.

This is not humor, it’s you being bad at articulating.

I’ll articulate how I want *glares at screen* ’cause this is my life! *Clunks head on chair and goes into random sad phase* Any who, we’re not going to talk about Legolas YouTube videos. *Waves arms* Not going to talk about that.

If you’ve read the Lord of the Rings reviews I’ve done with her it’s obvious she has a huge crush on him

Any who, yes, so back to reading. Grace discovered a book series called Redwall *throws up arms* and they’re like, big books. Like long, grownup–they’re not grownup! They’re kids books, but they’re long. Yeah. So…

I advise you get this over with so I can ask you more questions.

Ok, so I started reading Redwall and I fell in love! Just like with Will Turner *clears throat*. Any who, yeah that’s it. That’s the story. Oh! After that I just started reading books, so I like reading.

What was the first book that ever made you cry?

Like, cry or tear up?

Cry. Like, tears coming down your face.

Ok, so that has only been one book ever for me. It was Loamhedge, which is a book in the Redwall series, and I can’t tell you who died, because that would be a spoiler. But the person died and the thing is, I had read that book a long time ago, so I knew who died, and I knew when they died and how they died. But I loved them so much, and then their death scene was so emotional. I shut myself in the bathroom and had a crying fit for like, five minutes.

Does writing energize or exhaust you?

OH, that’s an easy one. EXHAUST ME! Especially since I have a ship (romantic relationship) that I’m not supposed to ship, and I ship them. And I don’t like a lot of romance, so it’s killing me to write this ship that I don’t want to ship, and then I have to write romance for! It’s…*swivels around on trash can and laughs*

Ah. Did you ever consider writing under a pen name?

*Claps* Yes I did, and I am going to. Because I’m very…apprehensive about, like, online safety and stuff and any safety! Real life safety, which is why I’m also like going to put a picture of, me…this is a bad example, but me standing behind like a vase of flowers and the flowers covering my face or something like that in my author, like about the author page in the book. Like Lemony Snicket.

Ah. What’s your pen name?

Samantha Abigails, which is probably a bad pen name.

No, it’s cool! Do you want your book to stand on its own, or to have tie-ins to other books you write?

Um…for now, what I know now, I mean obviously this is not the end of my writing career hopefully…unless I die *laughs*. So from what I know now, I just love sad or bittersweet book or movie endings, or anything endings! And so most of my books–like all of them–the endings don’t really have potential for series unless you wanna do that thing where the writer writes about a little kid in the first book, like grown-up in the second book, which I abhor it! I hate it! I have bad grammar.

I literally just told you that! SO, now that we’ve got these other questions out of the way, tell my about your book.

My current biggest WIP is…actually, I don’t have a name for it yet, so I just call it my Ronan Story because Ronan is the main character *giggles like a lovestruck fool* so–I do not have a crush on him! You weirdo!

Uh huh. Just keep talking.

Any who, it’s about Ronan, and he’s twenty-ish aroundish, twenty-six. He’s twenty-six, and he…his…dagnabbit! Is that a spoiler? No, his parents were killed by my bad guy and I just decided that today, even though I’ve been writing this thing for literal months. So him…not him, he…he goes, um, bleh. I cannot talk. Ok, ok, for the record *laughs*, I am a very bad writer *laughs* because I have my beginning and my ending, and I make up a bunch of junk to go in the middle! *Laughs uncontrollably* Um, so also I have not developed, like, an elevator pitch or whatever for my book, and I’m not articulate so I’m doing a very bad job at describing it.

You don’t need an elevator pitch for your first draft, especially since the book will change!

This is true, this is true. But it’s about Ronan, and…I can’t get into character depths here, I love gabbing about my book. Um, any who, so it’s about *puffs* *laughs* it’s about Ronan and his…and…wait…like, five or six…I mean, five, but then six person comes later. Just go with five. Five people who just want to…bla bla bla *laughs*

Come on, we have to finish this up.

Ok *clears throat* and five other people who go after my main bad guy, whose name is Tilor and they think it’s just going to be a quick, small confrontation but he ends up–Tilor does–having more power than they thought he did. The end.

OK guys! Thanks for putting up with Sister’s rant and ramble! After reading through this, I realized I have to clean up her uhs and ums, so it’s a little edited but pretty true to life!

Keep checking back every Monday if you want to see more of this! God Bless!

Blooper reel:

Get rid of that stuff.

No.

Get rid of it, Grace!

You can’t make me get rid of stuff.

*Laughs like a madwoman*

Later…

My speech makes no sense. It literally makes no sense.

Later…

Put a comma there. It’s bad grammar.

You have bad grammar!

Put a comma there! *Glares as I don’t* Whatever
