March Wrap-Up

Hi guys! I…did not stay consistent. I’m only wearing one sock. Also I’m tired. But here am I, coming through for you guys!

I know it’s been so long since I put out a new chapter for The Fellowship of the Novel Characters, but I really wanted to do this post! For Christmas I got a splendid Newsies notebook and I decided to do a little reading journal in it. In addition, I added a section for movies and my playlist. I thought at the end of each month I would share my jottings.

March DNFs (Did Not Finish):

Eye of the World by Robert Jordan. I’d heard good things about it but when I picked it up I found out there was some mature content that I didn’t want to get into.

The Thief by Megan Whalen Turner. I tried to read it once, but I didn’t fully appreciate it. Since there’s an adaptation coming up, I wanted to try to read the series, but I just couldn’t finish the book. It really didn’t hold my attention.

Books I’ve Read:

Good Masters! Sweet Ladies by Laura Amy Schlitz. This is a book full of skits, mostly monologues, about characters in the medieval times. There’s a lord’s son, a blacksmith, a shepherdess, and more. What’s even better is that these characters are teenagers. For my thoughts, I wrote ‘I always love these skits!’ (I’ve read it before)

Traiven’s Pass by Jessica Marinos. This was a book I read for a book club my friends and I started, which I will talk more in depth about later. It’s an allegorical fantasy, following a young man named Galen who travels to a city from a small town and a young woman named Lydia whose father is killed and whose family is forced into servitude.

The Glass Sentence by S.E. Grove. This is the first book in my favorite series! It follows a girl named Sophia whose uncle is kidnapped. She joins forces with a boy named Theo to try and find him. For my thoughts, I wrote ‘One of my faves! Read to Mom and she loved it.’

The Selection by Keira Cass. This is classified as dystopian fiction and follows a girl named America Singer who is entered into a competition called The Selection to choose a bride for the country’s prince. In my notes, I wrote ‘Interesting and whimsical. Quite YA, but there’s nothing wrong with that.’

Movies:

I really didn’t watch any movies this month, but I did finish Season Two of Avatar: The Last Airbender and am currently watching the newest season of When Calls the Heart with my mom and sister.

Playlist:

  • Snapping by Chungha • Snapping, snapping, trying to close my eyes
  • Danger by BTS • We are like parallel lines. We are so different though we both are looking at the same place
  • Winter Bird by Aurora • Silent days, violent shades. We are dancing again in a dream, by the lake
  • DNAnger (mashup of Danger and DNA) by BTS, edited by MiggySmallz
  • Young and Beautiful by Lana del Ray • Will you still love me when I’m no longer young and beautiful?
  • Opaline by Novo Amor • I know, I could’ve said I was feeling low. But I’m here just to hold your coat.
  • Keep Me by Novo Amor • Keep me honest, keep me kind. Keep me as your finish line.
  • Angels by Owl City • Livin’ close to the ground is seventh heaven ’cause there are angels all around.

Book Club Read:

This month for my book club, we read Traiven’s Pass, the first book in the Trimont Trilogy. Here are my notes:

A little cliche, but I’m enjoying it.

3/25/2021 Finished

Rating: 3 of 5 stars

Enjoyable but not my favorite. It was pretty cliche and a little stilted.

Least favorite character: Galen

Favorite character: Cadby

Books to Pick Up:

Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins. I’m reading The Hunger Games and just need to finish this book. I’ve watched the movies, so I’m eager to see how the book differs from it.

That’s it! This was fun to write, and I hope you guys enjoyed reading it. I’ll try to come up with another chapter of The Fellowship of the Novel Characters. I don’t really have any more topics for A Writerly Chat, so as Sister keeps working on her book I’ll keep you updated. Be blessed!
