The 7777 Writing Tag

Do you what both terrorizes and excites writers?

Sharing their work.

Sometimes writers have stories that simultaneously humiliate and inspire them hidden under a blanket and guarded by a baby dragon. Sometimes, writers boiling over with inspiration and excitement just can’t wait to share their stories with the world.

For my current story, I fall into the latter category.

I will do another Story Dig post next week but today, we’re going to look at my current work in progress. No title (yet), but it’s a fantasy novel that I’ve had kicking around in my mind for a while

I was reading The Artful Author blog (unfortunately she hasn’t posted anything recently) and when I read her 7777 Writing Tag and I decided, ‘I want to do that!’

The Rules:

  1. Open your WIP to the 7th page
  2. Scroll past the seventh line
  3. Copy and paste the next seven paragraphs
  4. Tag a friend (I’m supposed to tag seven but I don’t have seven so oh well)

Of course it needs editing, but I’ve left it in its raw state for you all. Enjoy!

Eddie tapped his fingers on the counter. “We’re open, Krista. It’s not a good idea to be sitting on the counter.”

“I’m not, though, am I? I’m guessing you guys are doing particularly well.”

“There is no ‘you guys.’ At all.”

“Do you think she likes you?”

“I don’t know.” He sighed. “I wouldn’t wanna ask.”

“I agree with you, bud.”

The door opened with the first customer of Eddie’s shift, and he went instantly on high alert. The woman striding in could’ve been Penelope’s sister; her bouncy dark blonde hair was pulled back with a headband, and her light blue eyes sparkled in her beautiful face. The only imperfection was a small scar curving around her left eye. “Wow,” whispered Krista. “She’s gorgeous.”

Because that was super boring, I’ll give you a sample from the 14th page.

“Take a look in the mirrors.”

That would be hard not to do, since the whole gigantic dome was made of mirrors. In them, the three inhabitants were reflected in a shimmering night sky. But as he [Eddie] approached one, mist cleared from it and it became a window. He was looking down a shaft of some sort, some strange light illuminating the rusty metal walls.

“Eddie.” Penelope grabbed his arm. “This is crazy.”

“Can you see, though?” Worlds were illuminated through the mirror surfaces. Now, he was looking up at a giant, floating city, tethered to the peaks of a ring of mountains.

“I…I can.”

Slowly, Penelope’s grip on his arm loosened, and the two drifted apart, looking through the mirror-windows.

Time seemed to melt away. Eddie could’ve been looking through mirrors for a lifetime, but Marisha spoke and shattered the stillness. “Wait. Something’s wrong.”

And You, @ Your Blog!

That’s all I’ve got for this week. I know it was a day late, but I’m grateful I was able to get something out. See you at the Story Dig next week!
