Flash Fiction: I Can Hear the Sirens
Hey everyone! Sorry I didn’t post this last week. This is a quick fiction piece that I did while listening to Sirens by Fleurie. Some other songs that go with it (and are just bomb) are Deep End by Ruelle, Black Sea by Natasha Blume, and Under the Water by AURORA. This has minimal editing so I don’t know how good it is, but I really resonate with it. Here we go!
In this cacophonous world, it can be impossible to hear the quiet, persistent call of places beyond–beyond mirrors and dead ends and keyholes. But I can.
I don’t think I was meant for this world. Ever since I can remember, I saw the fairies and sylphs and whimsy that can only be otherworldly. I saw the dark things as well. I could hear as well. You can’t imagine the beauty of those ethereal calls from beyond the barriers of our universe.
I’ve tried to get others to hear them, but they thought I was crazy. I thought I was crazy. I tried therapists, psychiatrists, and all kinds of medicine. Eventually, I stopped. The songs are too real for this polluted reality and those ‘cures’. I knew it since the beginning.
I’ll admit it; sometimes it scares me. Everyone is afraid of the unknown, and I’m no exception. If I follow their calls, they’ll steal me from all I’ve ever known. But if I don’t, I’ll wonder until I lose my mind.
I can hear the sirens.
I know you’re seeing this. Please don’t cry for me. I’ll actually be quite easy to find, if you know how to look. You can come with me and we can find our place together. If you feel this world is right for you, then pass this on to someone who needs it. Believe me, they’ll be grateful.
I can hear the sirens. Can you?

That’s my story! Did you enjoy it? I’d love to hear your feedback and/or constructive criticism. I’m so glad I actually got this out on time today! Next week I’ll be back with another Story Dig post. Be blessed!
